A Comprehensive High School Serving Many CommunitiesThe new Newton North High School will be a dynamic facility that will serve the student population and the community at-large. In addition to hosting an impressive breadth of course offerings, athletics, and extra-curricular activities for Newton North students, the facility will be open seven days a week to community members for continuing educaiton classes, use of the athletic facilities, cultural events, lectures and meetings. The Newton North High School CommunityNewton North High School is a unique educational community, far different from most schools in important ways. North is diverse in its academic and extra-curricular offerings as well as in its student body and faculty. The school's size and cultural offerings also provide students with a wide range of opportunities for personal development, self-expression, and self-actualization rarely seen at the high school level.
North's commitment to offering a rich extra-curricular life is also widely evident. The opportunities in our theater program are remarkable: eleven shows are produced in ten months (including two major musicals and a full-length Shakespeare production) as well as five student directed plays. Our extensive music program enables vocalists and string, wind, and percussion musicians to perform at their own level in a wide assortment of settings, such as part of the ensemble choral, band and/or orchestra groups. We are proud of our national award winning bi-weekly newspaper and literary magazine, our nationally ranked science and math teams, our College/Career Resource Center, our television studio, our foreign exchange programs and our award winning athletic program which includes thirty varsity sports teams. There are over 80 clubs and organizations at North with opportunities for community service, cultural awareness, outings and fun, which include such groups as Model UN, Ultimate Frisbee, and one of the first Gay/Straight Alliances in the country. The open campus policy for student in grades 10- 12 offers opportunities for students to learn responsibility and reflects the respect we have for our students.
